Mt. Shingyo is a holy place with a connection to Kobo Daishi ("The Grand Master who Propagated the Dharma in Japan"). It provides a magnificent view of the Seto Inland Sea. There are many large and strangely-shaped boulders scattered over the mountain. The great stone at the mountain's summit has long been worshiped as an object of faith. Granite produced from the stone quarries of Mt. Shingyo is familiarly known as Aoki Ishi.
