Minamitani Quarry Site (Osaka Castle Wall Stone Quarry Remains)
Four hundred years ago, when the Tokugawa shogunate was rebuilding Osaka Castle, the daimyos of several domains opened quarries in the Bisan Islands to deliver huge stones to construct magnificent castle walls. The flavor of that time is still strongly in evidence at the quarries opened by the Kuroda daimyo in the Iwagatani district. With a total of more than 1602 stones still visible, these sites are important showcases for traditional masonry techniques.
