This ancient festival is a prayer for skillfulness and safety. Local residents continue to hold the festival each year on January 9 at Oyamazumi Shrine, near the Nishinotani quarry that was operated by the famous castle builder Todo Takatora. The festival is an important part of the area’s heritage which depended on the masonry profession and seagoing ships.
