7Kankakei Gorge
The Kankakei Gorge was carved by weathering and erosion of rock that was formed by volcanic activity about 13 million years ago. It is recognized as one of the three most beautiful gorges in Japan. The gorge area, approximately four kilometers long and eight kilometers wide, contains many unique rock formations. The surrounding mountains have been regarded as sacred ground since ancient times.
